So much has happened since Angela's birthday on Dec. 16 that it's hard to know where to begin with this post. So, let me start with the good news. From the time of Angela's visit to Duke on Sept. 8 until last week, she had been in a state of depression that she just wasn't able to shake. Well, in the last few days her mood and outlook have taken a remarkable turn for the better. David and I believe that this change in attitude is due to the new anti-depressant medicine she recently began taking.
Last Friday was David's birthday and he called me to take him to lunch, which is a practice we've held for years. Five minutes later he called back to tell me that Angela would be joining us, which shocked and thrilled both of us. Well, the weather that day was unseasonably warm and the three of us sat outdoors at Serrano's at the north gates of LSU. David and I were both so excited to see Angela out of the house and off the recliner where she's been spending nearly all of her waking moments since early September. It was such a great lunch.
After lunch, David suggested that we head across the street to Highland Coffees and the time we spent there was even better than lunch. Before the kids came along and, to a lesser degree, even afterwards, we've hung out together in coffee shops all over town; so this was like bringing back old times. Everything considered, Angela couldn't have given David a better birthday present than she did by joining us on Friday. It was really a special afternoon. That evening Steele and I went to their house for birthday cake, and again, you could still see the change in Angela's demeanor.
Angela's positive change in attitude has continued since Friday too. Today, for the first time in a long time, Angela went to physical therapy and that was followed by chemotherapy. Tomorrow she is scheduled to have an MRI.
I'm sure a lot of you who visit this page are wondering how Christmas was for the Flukers. I spent all day Christmas Eve with Angela and the kids and was there Christmas morning, as I am every year. So here's a Christmas update, beginning with Alex's birthday party on Dec. 20th.
Katherine was sick on the Saturday that Alex had his birthday party and I stayed with Kat and Angela so that David could attend the party with Christian and the Birthday Boy. David's sister and niece, Diane and Karlie, brought the boys to get a live Christmas tree after Alex's birthday party. That night they returned home and all of us, including Katherine, decorated the tree as Angela watched from her chair. Without question, their favorite part of decorating was throwing the icicles on the tree.
Christmas Eve evening, Angela's side of the family came over to the house to eat and exchange presents and on Christmas morning, Diane and Karlie came over to make breakfast. Between the toys Alex received for his birthday and the toys all three received on Christmas, there was hardly any room to move.
In closing, I should point out that Angela still doesn't have any short term memory. But, there is a very noticeable change in her attitude. Though she does have her down moments, those moment are much more rare now and she's smiling again... and we are all very thankful for that.

I hope that in spite of the constant fast pace surrounding Christmas, esp. in your family, you found time to relax. I am glad to hear that you are seeing things a little differently these days. There is joy to be found in spite of sorrow. God bless you and may He continue to lift your spirits. I hope you rec'd your cards and gifts collected in my Sunday School Class. Happy New Year and I will be fervently praying over that MRI tomorrow.
In the love of Christ

Happy New Year's Eve Angela, David, Alex, Christian, Kat and all of the family and friends who so unselfishly take care of each other,
I had to read and reread the latest post! Nothing like ending the year on a good note!! I am praying that the MRI will be nothing but good news. We all want Angela to receive the ultimate Christmas miracle...total healing..however, all the "other" miracles that are occuring every day....KEEP THEM COMING!!!
Angela, as 2008 comes to a close, I am so thankful that you had the strength and power to endure all the meds and suffering while trying to kill the nasty beast. You have alot to celebrate! I know everyone is so proud of you for staying on the path. Yes, I am sure there were detours in that path but you keep picking yourself back up!!! We could not ask for anything more.
Like myself, I know you have tons and tons of prayer warriors that will continue lifting you in prayer.
Love, peace and FULL OF HOPE for 2009,
Lowry
P.S.
On New Year's Eve, Marilyn stood up in the local pub and said that it was time to get ready. At the stroke of midnight, she wanted every husband to be standing next to the one person who made his life worth living.
Well, it was kind of embarrassing. As the clock struck - the bartender was almost crushed to death.
John Michael,
Thank you for the update and post for today. We all appreciate hearing the good news and so thankful for happy times.
David and Angela,
We continue to keep you in our prayers and wish we were not so involved with all our goings on so that we could help. We are thankful for this past year that you have had with each other and the children. We pray for peace and healing in 2009.
Love,
Eugene and Debi

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Good Morning Angela and David,
Saw this and I thought of the both of you. I can't even imagine the suffering the both of you and even the children have endured these past months. But when things or events or CANCER get in the way, the both of you keep putting one foot in front of the other. Keep up the fight!!! We are all praying for the both of you, the children and all the family and friends who are helping you on a daily basis. God Bless each of you.
"Don't Quit"
When things go wrong as they sometimes will, when the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit, rest if you must but don't you quit.
Many a failure turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out; Don't give up though the pace seems slow- you may succeed with another blow. You never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit- it's when things seem worst that you must not quit.
Love, peace and HOPE,
Lowry
Hey Angela and David,
Thinking about the both of you. School begins once again tomorrow. Like everyone else, it will be hard getting back into the routine.
I hope the boys are having a great school year!!
Love, peace and HOPE,
Lowry
